S ummary of Program and Position:

Family Peace Centers promote peace and safety for Hawaii’s families and communities by providing support and education for those who use violence, survivors, and their children. Violent and abusive behavior is learned and can be unlearned. Accepting responsibility and being accountable for one’s behavior are critical in the path to peace. The consistent use of non-violent skills assures safety for survivors and children, promotes offender accountability, and solidifies an end to the cycle of violence in families and communities. Family Peace Centers emphasize partnership, equality and respect among and between all family members.

The Family Peace Center Trauma Therapist is responsible for providing advocacy, crisis counseling, case management and therapeutic support services to domestic violence and sex trafficking victims/survivors, offenders, and child sex abuse victims. Short-term therapeutic interventions are provided at the Family Peace Center in preparation to transition the client into long-term services with a community therapist.

This position is responsible for responding to call out situations after normal business hours, and on weekends and holidays, as required. This position is under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor and coordinates with internal and external service partners as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Screens and conducts and completes intake/assessments for domestic violence offenders, victims of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and child sexual abuse from community, partner, and self-referrals to include safety planning and case management services in accordance with agency and program procedures.
  2. Plans and facilitates a variety of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and child sex abuse interventions including group counseling, individual counseling, crisis intervention and/or advocacy, and referrals. Attends to the safety of survivors and children, as designated.
  3. As a part of the Family Peace Center team, provides case consultation to staff regarding issues related to intimate partner abuse with co-occurring substance abuse, depression, and other mental health issues.
  4. Coordinates service activities as needed between PACT departments and partner agencies on behalf of the survivor.
  5. Assures timely maintenance of accurate record keeping, data input, data collection and confidential management of client information.
  6. Works collaboratively with other staff, community members, clients, and client collaterals to address issues related to client services and program activities. Responds to requests for information from partners, clients, collaterals, and community members.
  7. Supports the program’s quality activities as well as the agency’s Performance and Quality Improvement Program.

Work Hours: 40 hours during normal weekdays as assigned. Must be available for after hours for emergencies on weekends and holidays for crisis call out.

Minimum Qualifications

Education / Training:

  1. Master’s degree in in Social Work, Psychology, or related field, required.

Experience:

  1. Two (2) years’ experience and training working with families who have experienced domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, or related field.

Other:

  1. Possesses and maintains a valid driver’s license and daily access to an automobile.
  2. Possesses and maintains proof of no-fault insurance.
  3. Can obtain an acceptable criminal background check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  4. Can obtain an acceptable CWS background check. upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  5. Can obtain an acceptable National Sex Offender Registry Check upon hire, one year later, and annually thereafter.
  6. Can obtain an acceptable TB Clearance upon initial hire and annually thereafter.
